The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Kemi Nandap has expressed commitment to e-border security and migration management across the country.
This was stated in a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Kenneth Udo, on Saturday in Abuja.
Nandap, who was on a sightseeing tour along the borders of Lagos and Ogun states in southwestern Nigeria, said the move was aimed at reinforcing collective responsibility in securing Nigeria’s vast borders and streamlining migration management.
He emphasized the importance of synergy between actors in the fight against cross-border crime.
However, he contacted key stakeholders including the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Nandap also briefed authorities on new immigration initiatives at Seme, Idiroko, Lagos border and Ogun state commands.
“These advancements are part of the modernization of Nigeria’s border security infrastructure,” he said.
The NIS chief reiterated her commitment to the well-being and training of officers, urging them to maintain a high level of professionalism in carrying out their duties.
However, he emphasized the critical role of border communities in supporting border security efforts, adding that the service is committed to implementing digital strategies to improve border management and national security.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that discussions focused on facilitating the deployment of NIS personnel in the state, with the governor pledging to support the service’s initiatives.
NAN also reports that a joint security meeting was held with sister agencies to enhance cooperation in intelligence gathering and sharing.
The trip ended in Ogun State where the NID CG met with traditional rulers including the Alake and the Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Highness Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, CFR and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Highness the Yay Prof.Saka Adeola Matemilola.
He also met with the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Governor Prince Adedapo Abiodun, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Eng. was represented. Noimot Salako-Oyedele FNSE discusses logistical support and the provision of land for the construction of barracks.
