The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, officially commissioned the 5km Gaba-Tokulo road in Bwari Area Council on Friday, January 24, 2025, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to infrastructural development within the FCT.

Speaking at the event, the Minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to constructing one road in each of the six Area Councils, as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2024. He emphasized the ongoing progress in road commissioning across the FCT as evidence of the government’s resolve to positively impact all parts of the territory.

Highlighting investments in Bwari, the Minister disclosed that the Gaba-Tokulo road alone cost N7 billion. Additionally, N27 billion has been spent on rehabilitating roads from Dutse to Bwari, while roads in Ushafa and its surroundings accounted for N28 billion. In total, road projects in Bwari Area Council have amounted to N62.2 billion.

The Minister also emphasized investments in education, citing the renovation and construction of schools, including Government Secondary Schools in Dutse, Bwari, Ushafa, Deidei, Kubwa, and Jibi. These projects, valued at N27 billion, bring the total investment in Bwari Area Council to nearly N100 billion.

He assured residents that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda remains a tangible reality, with all awarded contracts being executed on time.

Addressing security concerns, the Minister announced the construction of two new police divisions in Igou and Ushafa, scheduled for completion by May 2025, to enhance safety in the area.

Responding to a request by Hon. John Gabaya, Chairman of Bwari Area Council, for the extension of the Gaba-Tokulo road to Kawu near the Kaduna State boundary, the Minister promised that the project would be prioritized. He also directed the contractor, Setraco, to install streetlights on the newly commissioned road, extending beyond the original scope of the contract.

Hon. Gabaya expressed gratitude for the road project, highlighting the challenges previously faced by residents due to the poor state of the road, which had led to tragic losses. He commended the Minister as a champion of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and presented a token of appreciation on behalf of the people.

In her remarks, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, described the projects as clear evidence of President Tinubu’s dedication to improving rural infrastructure. She thanked the President, the FCT Minister, and the National Assembly for their roles in achieving these milestones.

Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, Coordinator of the Satellite Town Development Department (STDD), lauded the Minister’s unwavering commitment to advancing development in satellite towns and area councils. He noted that the Gaba-Tokulo road project has significantly improved the economic and social environment of the community, fostering growth for small and medium enterprises.

The ceremony also included a moment of silence in memory of former FCT Minister Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Rtd), who passed away on Thursday.
