A Non-Governmental Organisation, Anti-Kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Drug Abuse Initiative (AKH-TRACADA), has commended the Federal Government for taking bold and decisive steps to address the growing menace of bullying in Nigerian schools.
The CEO and Founder of the organization, Mr. Belonwu Ezeanyaeche conveyed the congratulations in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ezeanyaeche commended the government’s decision to set up a seven-member committee to combat bullying.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Ministry of Education has set up a seven-member committee and created channels for confidential reporting to combat bullying in all Nigerian schools.
The CEO said bullying has become a widespread problem in Nigerian schools and has serious implications for the mental health, well-being and academic performance of affected students.
“The decision by the Federal Government to address this issue is a positive step forward. It is a crucial milestone towards creating a bullying-free environment in Nigerian schools.
“We believe that all students deserve to learn in a safe and supportive environment, free from fear, intimidation and harassment,” he added.
Ezeanyaeche reiterated the organization’s intention to work with government and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the committee’s mandate and the effective implementation of anti-bullying initiatives in Nigerian schools.
He urged parents, teachers and community leaders to join hands in the fight against bullying.
“We must all work together to create a culture of kindness, empathy and respect in our schools.
“The establishment of the committee and the introduction of some reporting channels are considered major successes in the fight against bullying in Nigerian schools.
“With the support of all stakeholders, we can expect Nigerian schools to become safer, more supportive and inclusive environments for all learners,” he said.
