Contrary to circulating rumours, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed that no bomb blast or explosion occurred at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri.
This clarification was made in a public statement on Monday by the Service’s spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Abubakar Umar, who emphasized that operations across all correctional facilities in the country remain stable and secure.
There has been no explosion or security breach in Maiduguri or any other custodial centre in Nigeria. All inmates are safe, and routine activities are ongoing without disruption,” he stated.
Umar urged members of the public to disregard misleading reports and avoid spreading unverified information, particularly on social media. He warned that such false claims could create unnecessary fear and undermine trust in national security institutions.
He further highlighted the need to verify news from credible, official sources, especially when it concerns public safety and national stability.
Reaffirming the Service’s commitment, Umar noted that NCoS continues to prioritize the safety of inmates, staff, and the general public.
Our facilities nationwide are under close monitoring, and any relevant updates will be communicated promptly. The public should remain calm and support ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening our correctional system,” he added.
The statement concluded with a call for responsible citizenship and cooperation with authorities to ensure continued peace and progress within the correctional sector.
