Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has emphasized the need for unity and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria, particularly in light of the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
Speaking on Sunday at the Jesus Praise Evangelical Ministries International (JPEMI) in Abuja, Fani-Kayode urged national leaders to promote harmony among Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic differences. He stressed the importance of fostering stronger ties between Christians and Muslims, as well as between Northerners and Southerners.
Fani-Kayode, who has lived in Northern Nigeria for over two decades, highlighted his diverse heritage, stating that he is predominantly Yoruba with Fulani ancestry, while his children have Igbo roots. He noted that Nigeria’s multicultural identity should be embraced as a source of strength rather than division.
The former minister expressed optimism that peace would prevail in Rivers State and across the country.
“I hope and pray for peace in Rivers so that all parties can work together in unity. My desire is for Nigeria to continue growing stronger as one nation,” he stated.
He further stressed that leaders, irrespective of political affiliations, should prioritize national unity and work towards fostering a more inclusive society.
“It is crucial to support leaders who promote unity across religious and ethnic lines. We must not allow divisions to threaten the peace and stability of this nation,” he added.
Beyond national issues, Fani-Kayode also addressed global humanitarian concerns, particularly the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He reaffirmed his commitment to justice and condemned violence against innocent civilians.
“My faith teaches me to stand up for the weak and the oppressed. No one, regardless of status or position, has the right to harm innocent women and children. Such actions go against the principles of justice and humanity,” he remarked.
Encouraging Nigerians to stand for truth and work towards a unified future, he emphasized that the country must remain undivided.
“Nigeria must remain strong and united. We must set aside differences and move forward together,” he concluded.
Fani-Kayode’s remarks come at a time of heightened political tension in Rivers State, highlighting the need for dialogue, peace, and national reconciliation.
