Women leaders and members of Team Tinubu 2027 have called for greater unity, discipline and coordinated grassroots mobilisation as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
The appeal was made during a courtesy visit to the movement’s Grand Patron, Bishop Professor Stephen Tunde Victor Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission.
During the engagement, speakers praised the contributions of women to national development, expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and urged women at the grassroots to participate actively in the democratic process.
The media team interviewed key participants at the event, who explained the purpose of the visit and the movement’s plans to strengthen its engagement with women across communities.
Receiving the delegation, Adegbite described women as central to the progress of families, communities and the nation.
“We all love our mothers, and we love our women. Mr President loves the women for what they are doing for him and for our nation,” he said
Adegbite said he was pleased to receive the delegation, adding that its members had come to identify with the policies of the Tinubu administration, to declare their support for the President’s re-election, and to pray for his continued health and leadership.
“They are here today to identify with the good deeds and policies of Mr President and also to declare their support for his re-election,” he said.
“They are praying that God will grant him good health and give him more grace so that he will be able to do more.”
The NCPC Executive Secretary encouraged members of the movement to continue their grassroots activities, assuring them that their efforts would not go unnoticed.
He also urged the women to remain peaceful and committed as they communicate the movement’s message to their families, communities and political wards.
According to him, women seeking to contribute meaningfully to political and national development must learn to work in a coordinated, united and resilient manner.
Adegbite also encouraged women to take advantage of empowerment programmes associated with the Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
He said empowerment opportunities should be used responsibly to improve the lives of beneficiaries and their families.
“Whatever is given to anyone who appreciates it must be used maximally so that it can make their life better,” he said.
Adegbite criticised the tendency of some people to discourage others from accepting or making productive use of available opportunities.
In his view, citizens should support initiatives that improve livelihoods rather than dismiss them without careful consideration.
The Renewed Hope Initiative is a non-governmental organisation focused on education, empowerment, health, social investment and support for vulnerable families.
Its programmes are designed to reach communities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, 36 states and 774 local government areas.
Adegbite praised the First Lady’s record of supporting women and vulnerable people, saying she had demonstrated a longstanding commitment to humanitarian and empowerment activities.
He urged women at the grassroots to educate their children, engage members of their communities and participate actively in the democratic process when the time comes.
The cleric also expressed confidence that the administration would ultimately be judged by the results of its policies and programmes.
The National Grand Woman Leader of Team Tinubu 2027, Her Excellency Dame Pauline Tallen, OFR, was represented at the event by Dr Betty Olutunde, founder of the Betneely Charity Foundation.
Speaking on Tallen’s behalf, Olutunde told the women that political mobilisation and community development required discipline, cooperation and responsible leadership.
“Everything that we need to do must be done with discipline. You have to discipline yourself and bring yourselves together,” she said.
She stressed that the government could not address every social and economic challenge without citizens’ cooperation.
“Government cannot do it alone. We have to support the government by showing self-discipline, coming together and remaining united,” she said.
Olutunde also advised the women to move beyond continuous complaints and begin developing practical responses to challenges within their communities.
“Complaining does not solve problems. When you sit down and come together, someone must be a leader,” she said.
She described Tallen, a former Minister of Women Affairs and former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, as a leader who had demonstrated honesty, diligence, compassion, and commitment to advancing women.
Olutunde urged members of the delegation not to lose hope, declaring: “Let your hope come alive.”
The National Women Leader of Team Tinubu 2027, Mrs Cecilia Andrew Yashim, expressed appreciation to Adegbite for the reception given to the delegation.
She described his hospitality and openness as encouraging to the women who participated in the courtesy visit.
“What we have seen here—the acceptance, warmth, hospitality and open-heartedness of our Grand Patron—is something to be reckoned with,” Yashim said.
“We really appreciate him, and our hopes have come alive again.”
She acknowledged that some women, particularly those at the grassroots, had become discouraged by economic and social difficulties.
However, she urged them to remain hopeful and participate actively in the movement’s programmes.
“Let your hope come alive because Renewed Hope is real. It is not a play,” she said.
According to Yashim, women had already benefited from parts of the administration’s agenda and should position themselves to access further opportunities.
“We women have enjoyed part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, and we are still going to enjoy more,” she said.
“It is time to wake up to the call of working for our president in 2027.”
Her comments reflected the movement’s intention to make women a major part of its mobilisation strategy ahead of the next general election.
The National Convener of Team Tinubu 2027, Hon. James Malu Agume, said the organisation was created to promote President Tinubu’s policies and mobilise grassroots support for a second term.
Agume said members of the movement had followed Tinubu’s political career for many years and were influenced by what they considered his record of leadership in Lagos State.
“We have been following Asiwaju for a very long time. We have seen his track record of achievement in Lagos, and we have also seen his policies,” he said.
Agume described the President as a political leader who, in the movement’s assessment, had shown concern for ordinary Nigerians.
He referred to Tinubu’s years as Governor of Lagos State and the state’s efforts to increase internally generated revenue during the dispute over the withholding of federal allocations meant for local governments.
According to the convener, that political and administrative record influenced the establishment of Team Tinubu 2027.
“Based on those antecedents, we decided to create this group to promote his policies and organise support from the grassroots for him to be voted into office for a second term,” Agume said.
President Tinubu appointed Bishop Stephen Adegbite as Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission in January 2024.
He formally assumed office in February 2024 as the commission’s fourth substantive Executive Secretary.
The NCPC is responsible for coordinating and supervising Christian pilgrimage activities, including the welfare and transportation of Nigerian pilgrims to designated holy sites.
Team Tinubu 2027 has publicly identified Adegbite as its Grand Patron and has previously commended his leadership of the commission.
His position as a religious leader and head of a federal commission lends considerable public interest to his interactions with political and civic groups.
The visit highlighted the growing importance of women and grassroots networks in political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
Women remain influential within Nigerian households, markets, religious organisations, professional associations and community groups.
Any political movement seeking nationwide support is therefore likely to consider women’s participation an important part of its mobilisation strategy.
The engagement also enabled Team Tinubu 2027 to strengthen its relationship with its Grand Patron and to publicly explain the reasons for its support for President Tinubu.
However, political support groups will ultimately be assessed by more than the number of meetings, endorsements or courtesy visits they organise.
For women at the grassroots, major concerns are likely to include the cost of living, access to employment, support for small businesses, healthcare, education and security.
Political movements seeking their support will therefore need to demonstrate how government policies are addressing these everyday challenges.
It is also important to distinguish the political views expressed by members of Team Tinubu 2027 from an independent assessment of the administration’s performance.
The speakers at the event were presenting the position of a political support movement committed to President Tinubu’s re-election.
As political activity increases, Nigerians will expect both the government and its supporters to provide evidence of progress while remaining open to questions and criticism regarding policies that affect citizens.
The courtesy visit nevertheless demonstrated that women are preparing to play an active role in the conversations, mobilisation efforts and political activities that will shape the road to the 2027 election.
The Team Tinubu 2027 visit to Bishop Stephen Adegbite brought together political organisers, women leaders and grassroots representatives around a shared message of unity, discipline and continued support for President Tinubu.
Adegbite encouraged the women to remain coordinated and make productive use of empowerment opportunities.
Olutunde called for discipline and collective responsibility, while Yashim urged discouraged women at the grassroots to renew their hope and participate actively in the movement.
Agume, meanwhile, said Team Tinubu 2027 would continue to promote the President’s policies and mobilise support for a second term.
As the 2027 election approaches, the group’s influence will depend on its ability to translate political enthusiasm into meaningful grassroots engagement and to respond to the practical concerns of the women whose support it seeks.
